Dedicated to my Sterling Loverboy

You give kisses that never stop,
whether perched on my shoulder or a pillow top.
You're licky and squishy and such a delight,
You're stealing my heart, but I give up the fight.
You just can't imagine how you bring me such joy,
a sterling blue rattie, my Loverboy.

Below are a group of great poems submitted by Eric Knapp.

[Floyd, our friendliest and most fearless, liked to sit on my shoulder and groom my sideburns.]

Floyder was known far and wide
For his fun-loving mischievous side
His beautiful blaze
His affable ways
And the grooming he’d always provide

[Henna (aka Fuzzle) never walked anywhere in her life. She raced, bounced, and zoomed everywhere she went. But she loved to take time out for snuggling.]

A manic young ratling named Fuzzle
Had humans she'd frantically nuzzle.
She'd bounce fro and to
Like a small kangaroo
Whose purpose nobody could puzzle.

[We tried using a spray bottle to get Bindi to stop gnawing on doors. Instead she learned to make sure the coast was clear first then chew as fast as possible.]

Bindi was down on the floor
Chewing her way through a door
She eeped in dismay
As she felt a great spray
And vowed she would even the score

With an insolent tilt to her head
On the wood she brazenly fed
She ignored with ease
The squirts and the pleas
As door to tasty door she sped.

[Except for door-munching, Bindi was ever-so-careful and gentle about everything she did.]

As gentle as any could be
Is the dainty rat-girl called Bindi.
A right proper miss,
In fact quite a priss,
As she takes her treats oh-so-gently.

[Clarence lived his whole life two feet off the ground; for some reason, whenever I'd put him on the floor he would immediately scramble onto the nearest couch, coffee table, or chair. When I was a kid, my brother and I played a game where we couldn't touch the floor because it was covered with alligators.]

Clarence, so handsome and sweet,
On the carpet would not put his feet.
"I'll just take a nap
Right here on your lap,
Where those darned alligators can't reach."

My Pet Rat

There once was a rat from Charlotte,
He was just a tiny tot,
He loved to play, would stay all day,
Then fall asleep on his cot.

Dedicated to Sweetheart

You climb up, you climb down,
You are such a crazy clown,
You steel my money,
Then act as sweet as honey,
And try and hide, where you can't be found.

You come and sit on my knee,
I see you looking at me,
Your fur is soft to touch,
How can I love you this much?
Open the door of my heart, you hold the key.
